Palbinder Badesha moved with her husband to the United States to raise their children. New to the states, Palbinder wasn’t sure what her next career steps would be. With a master’s in Industrial Relations and a passion for employer and employee relationships, she knew she wanted to continue to help people. And, she had always wanted to own her own business. Well, Leo Craig was in that exact predicament, though you might not expect it from a high-powered president and CEO of a neonatal diagnostics company. But, when his contract with the company ended, he found himself unsure of his future. He set out simply to look for just another job until something made him change his mind. Leo picked up the phone, called Express, and suddenly found himself on a new path.
It’s the American dream – to get a job with a company and work your way up through the ranks until you own the place. Though it doesn’t happen for everyone, that’s the path Lynn Yoerk started on when she joined an Express office 15 years ago in Champaign, IL.
It was more than a mutual business decision when college friends Holly Doan and Deidra Viney opened the doors to their Express office in late 2000. It was the realization of a shared dream. As finance majors at Rutger’s University, they dreamed together about opening their own business. The dream seemed to be short-lived when after college, they went their separate ways. The pair’s friendship remained strong, and after six years of the corporate world, they decided it was time to leave the rat race and become Express franchisees.
